Appeal from the Kurdish National Council in Kobani

Yekiti Media

We call on all parties to cease internal fighting, return to the negotiating table, and resort to reason and logic.

In light of the tragic and dangerous circumstances in the city of Kobani and its countryside, especially after it has been completely surrounded from all directions, and with the continuing attacks and escalating violence, and the interruption of water and electricity supplies, the lack of fuel and basic foodstuffs, and the accumulation of snow and cold, we in the Kobani Local Council of the Kurdish National Council in Syria express our deep concern about the severe humanitarian suffering of our people, which threatens the lives, security, and dignity of civilians.

Kobani has always been a symbol of resilience and coexistence. It cannot be a new arena for fighting and destruction, nor fuel for conflicts in which the only winners are death and ruin.

The continuation of the siege and attacks will only deepen the wounds, increase the suffering of innocent people, and open the door to a real humanitarian catastrophe.

Based on our national and moral responsibility, we affirm our unwavering position calling for peace and dialogue as the only option for resolving differences, and we reiterate our categorical rejection of addressing political differences through military means or violence in all its forms. In this context, we recall the words of the wise leader of our nation, Masoud Barzani: “Ten years of dialogue are better than one hour of war.”
These words sincerely express our approach and vision for the future of our people and our region.

We therefore call on all parties concerned to shoulder their responsibilities, immediately cease military action, lift the siege on the city of Kobani, secure access for humanitarian aid, and ensure the urgent provision of water, electricity, fuel, and food supplies in order to preserve civilian lives and prevent a humanitarian catastrophe.

We also call on political forces and community leaders to let reason and wisdom prevail and to seriously engage in responsible dialogue that will spare the city and the region further tragedy, preserve civil peace, and protect human dignity.

Today, Kobani needs peace, not weapons; dialogue, not cannons; life, not death.

Glory to steadfast Kobani!
Peace to our people!
