Statement by the Central Committee of the Kurdistan Yekîtî Party – Syria on the unfortunate events in Sweida

Yekiti media

The Central Committee of the Kurdistan Yekîtî Party – Syria is following with great concern the dangerous escalation in Sweida governorate, where armed clashes have resulted in civilian casualties and horrific massacres of a sectarian nature, in addition to the destruction of public and private property, which threatens civil peace and increases the suffering of Syrians.

The party strongly condemns the use of violence and weapons in the face of the peaceful demands of the Druze community, and emphasizes that real solutions do not come through force, but through a serious national dialogue that takes into account the aspirations of all Syrian components.

We hold the Syrian Interim Government primarily responsible for the state of affairs as a result of its policies based on repression and marginalization, instead of listening to responsible popular demands and seeking just political solutions. We also strongly reject any attempts to turn the peaceful movement into sectarian conflicts that threaten the unity of the country. We condemn the violations committed by outlawed armed groups and demand that any political or security cover for them be lifted.

In this context, we call for an immediate cessation of clashes and the opening of safe corridors to enable relief organizations to enter and provide urgent medical and food aid to hundreds of besieged families. We also call for an end to inflammatory and sectarian rhetoric, and urge the media and political forces to adopt the language of reason and responsibility, and consolidate the values of tolerance and equal citizenship.

We express our deep regret for the loss of victims, wish the injured a speedy recovery, and call for the formation of an independent investigation committee with the participation of international observers to ensure that the facts are uncovered and those involved are held accountable, without any political or factional considerations.
The party emphasizes that a radical solution to the Syrian crisis can only be achieved through a comprehensive national dialogue, in which all components participate, and on clear bases that include:

Decentralization to ensure equal rights, transitional justice and reparations, and the restructuring of state institutions to reflect Syria’s national diversity.

We reiterate our full solidarity with the people of Sweida and all those affected by these events, and we support any path that leads to ending the Syrian tragedy and building a democratic and decentralized state that guarantees freedom and dignity for all its citizens.
Syria is a homeland for all
