Statement Condemning the Attack on the Residence of President Nechirvan Barzani

The Kurdish National Council condemns in the strongest terms the heinous attack targeting the home of President Nechirvan Barzani, President of the Kurdistan Region, in Dohuk Governorate, which was carried out by armed factions affiliated with Iran, in flagrant violation of all international and humanitarian laws and norms, with the aim of undermining the sovereignty of the Kurdistan Region and attempting to destabilize security and stability, and to threaten the security of its legitimate institutions.

While standing with the people of the Kurdistan Region and condemning this criminal act, the Council calls on the Iraqi government to assume its responsibilities in fulfilling its constitutional and legal duties, to take measures to deter these outlawed factions, and to ensure that such acts are not repeated.

It also calls on the international community, led by the United States of America, to protect the people of Kurdistan, safeguard their security and stability, and work diligently to prevent any interference or attacks that threaten the sovereignty of the Region and the safety of its citizens.
