The General Secretariat of the Kurdish National Council in Syria held its regular meeting in September 13, 2025, where it discussed the overall political developments in Syria and Kurdistan, focusing on developments related to the Kurdish issue in the country. The Council Presidency also reviewed the activities and meetings that took place during the past period, and the meeting concluded with a series of decisions and recommendations that would strengthen the Council’s role in the coming period.
The General Secretariat affirmed the Kurdish National Council’s full commitment to the outcomes of the Conference on Kurdish Unity and Position held in April 26, and stressed the need to activate the role of the joint Kurdish delegation and enable it to perform its tasks in the political process aimed at finding a solution to the Kurdish issue in Syria. It affirmed that this solution must guarantee the legitimate national rights of the Kurdish people within the framework of a democratic, decentralized, and unified Syria.
The participants also considered that the unity of the Kurdish position achieved at the April conference represents an important step that must be built upon and developed to include an effective partnership between the various Kurdish parties at all levels, based on the principles of the the 2014 Duhok Agreement and the agreements reached under US auspices in 2020, including the formation of a Kurdish reference.
In a related context, the meeting stressed the importance of strengthening the presence of the Kurdish National Council at the Kurdish and national levels, and the need to expand its network of relations with various components of the Syrian people and active political and civil forces, with the aim of conveying the voice of the Kurdish people and their demands to all parties concerned with the political solution, and in a manner that serves to achieve a comprehensive political transition that meets the aspirations of Syrians for freedom, justice, and national partnership.
The General Secretariat reaffirmed its full commitment to the principle of collective action and adherence to the statutes of the Kurdish National Council, stressing that all decisions should be taken within the approved institutional frameworks and internal consultation mechanisms, ensuring the active participation of all Council bodies in addressing the crucial issues facing the Kurdish people.
