In a statement, seven Kurdish political parties from Easten Kurdistan address the UN Human Rights Council, leading states in the international community, and international human rights organizations. They strongly condemn the Iranian regime’s ongoing and violent repression of countrywide protests, describing the crackdown as crimes against humanity. The statement highlights the killing of women and children, mass arrests and the injury and blindness of thousands of protesters, as well as the regime’s efforts to conceal its actions by shutting down the internet and severely restricting communication with the outside world.
The statement places particular emphasis on the situation in Kurdistan, where the state has imposed a heavy military presence and used lethal force against protesters. It describes serious human rights violations, including preventing families from burying their loved ones in their hometowns, demanding substantial sums of money for the return of victims’ bodies, and creating an atmosphere of fear that deters the injured from seeking medical treatment. Despite this repression, the parties stress that the will to resist remains strong, citing continued protests and a recent general strike across Iranian Kurdistan as evidence.
The statement warns of the imminent risk of further massacres and asserts that diplomatic efforts towards the Islamic Republic have thus far proven ineffective. The political parties urge the international community to take concrete action to stop the Iranian regime, support the peoples of Iran in their struggle, and respect their right to self-determination, freedom, and a dignified life.
In its concluding section, the statement reads: “The right to self-determination for the peoples of Iran rests with them. Over decades of struggle against Iran’s ruling regime, the masses and oppressed nations have shown that they deserve freedom and a life with dignity, and they continue to make sacrifices for it. By supporting the peoples of Iran in this struggle, you are fulfilling part of your historical responsibility
