US court find Syrian government guilty over journalist Marie Colvin’s killing

A judge in Washington DC has found the Syrian government guilty of the extra-judicial killing of the American reporter Marie Colvin.
Judge Amy Berman Jackson called the attack part of “Syria’s long-standing policy of violence” against journalists – and ordered the Assad regime to pay $302 million in damages.
Marie Colvin and the French photographer Remi Ochlik were killed in rebel held Baba Amr, in Homs, in February 2012. The civil case brought by Ms Colvin’s family is the first to find the Syrian government guilty of violating international law since the civil war began.
