Washington opposes holding elections in areas controlled by the Syrian Democratic Forces

The US Embassy in Syria announced its refusal to hold elections in areas controlled by the Democratic Union Party and the Syrian Democratic Forces.
Ethan Goldrich, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State in the Office of Near Eastern Affairs concerned with the Levant file, said on the official website of the US Embassy in Syria on the “X” platform, which stated: one thing that we’ re concerned abut right now , there is talk of an election in northeast Syria. And we don’t think that the conditions are in place for a free , fair , transparent , and inclusive election.
The Democratic Union administration intended to hold municipal elections in mid-June in areas controlled by the Syrian Democratic Forces in Syrian Kurdistan and northern Syria, but it announced the postponement of the elections until August 2024 due to American, regional and local rejection.
