A Kurdish citizen from the city of Qamishlo threatened to set himself on fire to protest the kidnapping of two of his daughters by the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK)-affiliated Revolutionary Youth organization, according to an informed source.
Yekiti Media obtained a video of Kurdish citizen Zafer Yusuf Suleiman from the village of Nematli, near Qamishlo, demanding the return of his daughters, while threatening to set himself on fire.
The Revolutionary Youth kidnapped the two minors Marianne, born in January 1, 2012, and Sela, born in November 1, 2012, from their home in March 2, 2025.
The kidnapping of children has increased recently, especially in the cities of Qamishlo, Hasakah, Kobani, and the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods, coinciding with the dialogues between the Democratic Union Party (PYD) and the Kurdish National Council in Syria (KNC).
In 2019, SDF commander Mazloum Abdi signed a commitment plan with UN Representative for Children and Armed Conflict Virginia Gamba to end and prevent the recruitment and use of children under the age of 18 in military operations.
According to observers, the Jawanin Shorshkar/Revolutionary Youth organization aims to brainwash children with the ideologies of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in order to recruit them into the party’s military ranks.
