The Sultan Murad armed faction, which is loyal to the Turkish army, set up several checkpoints in various areas in the countryside of Serekaniye in Syrian Kurdistan to force Kurdish citizens to pay tributes.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights confirmed that members of the Sultan Murad faction forced people in several villages in rural Serekaniye to pay tributes and confiscated some of their personal belongings.
These checkpoints were deployed in the areas of al-Aaliyah, Ameriyah, Khirbet Banat, and Mabrouka, west of Serekaniye city.
These violations came as the militants’ monthly salaries stopped and the revenue from human smuggling decreased, prompting some to resort to harassing people and taking away their personal property, amidst the silence of the Syrian government and the international community.
