Statement by the Kurdish National Council on the events in the Syrian coast
Yekiti Media
The Kurdish National Council is following with great concern the accelerating developments in the Syrian coast, where clashes between public security forces and armed groups led by officers and members of the former regime have resulted in hundreds of deaths, most of them civilians, which deepens the suffering of the Syrian people and strengthens the state of chaos and division.
These events come amid escalating protests in several regions of Syria demanding the inclusion of all components in the drafting of the constitution and participation in the future of the country.
While the Council condemns the armed operations that target stability and public security forces, it believes that the dictatorial regime that destroyed the country and displaced millions is still seeking to exploit the existing situation to spread chaos and undermine civil peace, taking advantage of regional interventions and loopholes that hinder the start of a genuine democratic transition.
The Council warns against deepening the crisis by perpetuating the policies of exclusion and marginalization pursued by the Syrian Interim Government, which will have serious repercussions on the future of the country.
Based on its national responsibilities, the Kurdish National Council calls on the new administration to deal wisely with what is happening, take urgent measures to stop violations against civilians, ensure their security and protect their property in the Syrian coast and all areas affected by the security operations, and reject sectarian rhetoric that targets authentic Syrian components.
It also emphasizes the need to form an interim government with broad powers that reflect the aspirations of all Syrians, away from the exclusionary policies that characterized the dialogue conferences and the committee that prepared the constitutional declaration.
The Council renews its call for a serious national dialogue with the participation of all Syrian components on the basis of pluralism and democracy, without any political tutelage, and calls on the international community to help consolidate the foundations of the new state.
In this context, the Council calls on all national forces to assume their responsibilities and work together to ensure a democratic and just future for all Syrians.
