A first batch of the People’s Protection Units (YPG) left neighborhoods in the northern Syrian province of Aleppo.
The YPG convoy left Al Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods in Aleppo province, with more than 50 vehicles carrying around 500 people, mostly military personnel and detainees who were released the day before yesterday, and headed to Raqqa province under the protection of the Syrian General Security.
The Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods are predominantly Kurdish, and have been under the control of the People’s Protection Units (YPG) since the outbreak of the Syrian revolution in spring 2011
The YPG is affiliated with the Democratic Union Party (PYD) and is the main military group of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
