The General Secretariat of the Kurdish National Council held its regular meeting on May 19, 2023, and studied the points that were fixed on its work schedule in the political and organizational fields.
After reviewing the meeting that the Council held with the US State Department’s High Representative, Mr. Nicholas Granger, and the memorandum presented to him regarding a number of issues of concern to the people of the region.
The meeting dealt with the general Syrian situation in light of the developments that interact recently in the course of some Arab countries normalizing relations with the regime in Damascus and the contacts that took place with it, which culminated in the invitation of the head of the regime to the Arab Summit Conference in its thirty-second session in the Saudi city of Jeddah, after many of them decided to return The opening of its embassies in Damascus, and this movement comes after the regime disrupted the course of the political process, and the work of the Constitutional Committee in Geneva, and those countries justified their directions to help get out of the crisis and find a political solution to it, at a time when the justifications for distancing the regime from the Arab League still exist, and have even multiplied since its approval, The regime has not taken any step towards accepting a political solution and alleviating the suffering of the Syrian people, nor has it changed its security approach and behavior in dealing with the crisis the country is going through, which will increase its intransigence and insistence on placing obstacles in front of any political effort to implement UN Resolution 2254.
The meeting considered that the ideal solution to the Syrian crisis is a comprehensive solution in accordance with the resolutions of international legitimacy, and the sacrifices that the Syrians have made for the sake of their freedom and dignity, and in order to build Syria a democratic, pluralistic, federal state with a new constitution that guarantees basic freedoms and democracy for all, and recognizes the national rights of the Kurdish people, and of all Syrian components and beyond. The elements of security and stability that the Syrians and the international community seek cannot be available.
The meeting examined the arbitrary practices of the PYD and its militants, and its exclusiveness by imposing royalties and decisions that further restrict people’s lives in their freedom and livelihood, in light of the deterioration of services and the high cost of living. They have political agendas against the interests of the citizens, knowing that they are the beneficiaries of it at all levels, and they are now controlling the movement of people through it until they came to the point of preventing the leaders of the Kurdish National Council parties and their cadres from crossing as additional political pressure on it, and the meeting held PYD responsible for causing them to close the crossing, and called To address this matter once and for all and put the crossing in the service of all the people of the region as a human being, as it was intended when President Masoud Barzani initiated its opening in early 2013, and his removal from the political and partisan agendas pursued by the PKK and behind it the PKK, and this has become an urgent matter, and it called on the American side and the relevant countries to carry out their responsibilities in this field.
The General Secretariat of the Council presented its congratulations to His Excellency President Masoud Barzani on the occasion of the inauguration of the National Museum of the immortal Barzani in fulfillment and appreciation for what he offered for the sake of his nation and appreciated his sovereignty’s call for the Kurdish parties in the region to come together and unify their word and position, and in this regard, the meeting stressed the need to work to build the unified Kurdish position, as stated in The decisions of the fourth conference of the Kurdish National Council, especially in light of the conditions and developments taking place in the region in general and Syria in particular.
The meeting focused on the situation in Afrin, and stressed the need for the Coalition and the Interim Government to abide by the promises they made about the Jenderes massacre on the night of Newroz, to hold those responsible accountable, to address its effects, to remove the militants from the populated areas, and to provide safe conditions for the return of the displaced to their homes.
