A large explosion was heard yesterday at a weapons depot in the in the oil-rich town of Rumeilan amid a state of high alert by local authorities.
A Yekiti Media reporter in the nearby town of Girke Lege said the explosion occurred in the armory in the evening hours and caused a power blackout. He added the incident has caused fear and panic among civilians, especially children.
The reporter indicated that firefighters, rescue forces and medical personnel had been alerted, but so far, no victims have been reported.
Our correspondent, quoting informed sources, said that the explosion occurred due to an electrical fault.
Oil and gas fields in Ruleiman have been under the control of the Democratic Union Party’s People Protection Units (YPG) since 2013.
