Statement by the Kurdish National Council in Syria on the Syrian Dialogue Conference
Yekiti Media
The Kurdish National Council in Syria has followed the preparations for the Syrian Dialogue Conference, which is scheduled to take place on 24th-25th February , based on the Council’s firm position in supporting any effort that contributes to reaching a comprehensive political transition that ends the suffering of Syrians and establishes a democratic, decentralized, multi-national, multi-religious and multicultural state whose constitution guarantees the rights of all components, especially the Kurdish people, in accordance with international covenants and conventions.
Holding the conference in such haste and announcing it one day in advance, and marginalizing the political and national components, including the Kurdish National Council, in the preparation and preparation, is a violation of the principle and right of national partnership of the Kurdish people, which should be the cornerstone of any serious dialogue that seeks to achieve a genuine national consensus.
The selective and individual issuance of invitations, without clear criteria to ensure a balanced representation of the various Syrian political forces and components, including the Kurdish political movement, raises fundamental questions about the usefulness of the conference and the possibility of addressing the various issues left behind by the former regime. In addition, the short preparation period for the conference and the failure to take into account the circumstances of participants from inside and outside Syria weaken its chances of success in achieving its desired goals in building the future Syria.
While the Council affirms its support for any political process that lays the foundations for rebuilding a new Syria in which there is no place for tyranny and exclusion of political and national components, it believes that any genuine national dialogue cannot be partial or based on ignoring the components of the Syrian people, nor can it achieve its goals if it does not ensure that the legitimate rights of all components are addressed on clear and specific grounds that guarantee a just political solution that ends the tragedy of Syrians and opens horizons for a democratic future that achieves stability and justice.
The catastrophic conditions that Syrians are living in today require immediate and effective measures to address them, through a serious and comprehensive political process that puts an end to their suffering and realizes their legitimate aspirations for freedom, dignity, and justice.
