Today, December 17, an armed group affiliated with the Democratic Union Party attacked those are celebrating Kurdistan Flag Day in Derik city, this national occasion that the Kurdish National Council in Syria commemorates every year.
This group broke the loudspeaker and threw stones at the revelers, causing some to be injured. Bullets were also fired to intimidate them and spread panic among them.
We, in the Kurdish National Council, strongly condemn these intimidating practices against Kurdish citizens and the Council by the Democratic Union Party gunmen, especially against those are celebrating the Kurdistan Flag Day with Kurdish national symbolism, We call on human rights organizations and international bodies concerned with the region, especially the United States of America, to prevent these actions that deepen differences, increase tension, and harm the Kurdish issue in Syria, at this delicate stage that Syria and the Kurdish people are going through.
