Arrest of the founder of the Barzani Descendants Movement

The family of Heydar Abbas, founder of the Barzani Descendants Movement, told the media that he was arrested by the Asayish at the Semalka border crossing on Monday, November 23, 2025, upon his return to Kurdistan.

Abbas had returned to the town of Tirbespiye with the funeral of his father, who died in Germany on November 12.
Abbas resides in the Faida refugee camp in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
